Methods:

Team: Tanya Singh, Akriti Goel, Jakob Prufer, Ruoxi Song, Changlin Hou, myself

Having been told that we needed to simplify our presentation concept, we needed to find out what the priorities were: what was essential to keep; what could be simplified and what could be removed entirely.

We reworked the elements within the project until we had less independent moving parts, without losing any of the effect of a live demonstration to the audience.

One of the elements we agreed upon was that the “live demonstration” would need to be scripted and staged, to avoid the complications an unprepared participant could bring.

We conducted testing of the concept, partly to test the idea itself but also to find out what things would have an effect on a participant, to aid us with the staging in the presentation.

The testing revealed a significant amount of small details that would help pull the presentation together, such as the sound of someone typing was distracting and removing the surprise of the human input.

Our presentation for this week was rushed, as we were immersed in the ‘doing’ of things. To our surprise, John was in attendance, and having not seen any of the work in the previous weeks, had no understanding of the project, or our very rushed version of the new storyboard we were hoping to gain feedback on from Al and Tonicha. Whilst at the time it was a little frustrating to begin from scratch in our explanation. In hindsight, it was a benefit to have a fresh pair of eyes - the insights from John were incredibly useful and very much needed.

Between the presentation and tutorial we had already again reworked the presentation, and agreed that a film would demonstrate the concept better - we could show, not tell. Now in a much better position and agreement with the tutors, we ended the week confident of what was to come.
